Timesheet templates make it easy to track employees’ hours and process payroll. A timesheet tracks, by day, the clock in and clock out times of hourly employees, along with unpaid breaks (like lunch). With a completed timesheet, you and your team members will know exactly how much they’re getting paid, how many hours they worked, and whether or not they accrued any overtime hours.

Note that these templates don’t include any wage rate information. This is to give you a little extra flexibility. That way, managers who don’t have access to wage rates can still fill out the timesheets.

Employees can work multiple roles with different wages for each. And if you offer holiday or other special pay rates, that can be calculated easily.

You can duplicate this spreadsheet to create a weekly or bi-weekly timesheet template that you can reuse, for example, in Microsoft Word. But it’ s easier to use a complete time tracking solution that will not only help you track employee hours, but also track employee time against scheduled hours. You’ll be able to get better insight into your business and your labor costs. 

This free timesheet spreadsheet is easy to use, but not particularly comprehensive. There’s still a lot of work you need to do yourself. Pretty much everything but the timesheet calculator or time card calculator that adds up the number of hours each employee works.

By using timesheet software, you’ll be able to identify employee time card errors, like missed clock outs or missed lunch breaks, easily. You can also export the time sheet directly to your payroll provider in just a few clicks, so your employees always receive the correct total pay each pay period.
One thing an employee timesheet template can’t help with is labor law compliance. According to the Fair Labor Standards Act, you need to store employee time card history for at least two years, even if the employee no longer works at your business. A free monthly timesheet in Excel or another spreadsheet program, can’t track sick leave, ensure accurate payroll, or ensure labor law compliance. A blank timesheet template is a simple calculator to track your employeeshours worked.
There’s also a security and privacy issue with an Excel time sheet. Managers or employees recording their hours worked in a given pay period probably shouldn’t view other employeeshourly rate or see their total pay. That means there’s an extra step for whoever on your team is responsible for payroll.

How to create a work timesheet

Creating a work timesheet is easy with Homebase’s free downloadable timesheet template. However, it’s much easier when you sign up for Homebase and use our free timesheets that do the work for you. 

When you use Homebase timesheets, our modern software automatically identifies errors in your time card. This makes it easy for you to spot them and fix them, so when you get ready to run your payroll, you’ll save hours.

How do I keep track of hours worked in Excel? 

If you download the Homebase timesheet template, it will be compatible with several versions of Microsoft Excel. 

Once you’ve got the template in Excel, here’s how you calculate your hours: 

1: Enter Time In in A1.

2: Input Time Out in B1.

3: Enter Hours Worked in C1

4: Select A2 and B2, and then hit [Ctrl]1, which will open Format Cells 

5: Select Time from the Category list box on the Number tab and choose 1:30 PM 

6: Right-click on the C2 cell, and choose Format Cells.

7: Select Time from the Category list box again and choose 13:30 from the Type list box. 

8: Enter =IF(B2<A2,B2+1,B2)-A2 into C2

How do you create a timesheet in Word? 

While you can manually keep track of your employees’ hours worked in Word, it won’t track hours automatically or calculate breaks and time off. Homebase timesheets will make sure you never miss an error, break, or overtime hours by keeping track of these things for you in our handy app. 

How do you fill out a timesheet paper? 

There are several ways to keep track of timesheets, and filling a paper version out manually is not one we recommend. However, if you want to download our timesheet template, you can use it to track clock in and clock out time of each of your employees. You can also use it to track unpaid breaks. 

Keeping track of a timesheets will keep you and your employees informed on how much you’re paying them, how many work hours they accumulated per week, and whether or not they reached overtime during the pay period. 

How do I make an hourly work time sheet? 

With Homebase, it’s very easy to make a timesheet. First set up your time clocks and add your scheduled times. Then, every time your employee clocks into a scheduled shift, with your time clock, the activity will flow into your Homebase Timesheets view. 

In your timesheets dashboard you’ll see summaries of your employees’ time card activity. You’ll also have access to every employee’s individual time cards. Timesheets include summaries of all time card activity and access to each individual time card. You can access these cards on your mobile device or on the web. 

How do you calculate timesheets?

If you wish to manually keep track of your timesheets, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Convert time to 24 hour clock 
  2. Next, subtract the start time of each shift from the end time of each shift. 
  3. This will give you the actual time worked for the shift. 
  4. Convert that time to a number format to determine your employee wages.

What about a monthly time sheet, or a semi monthly time sheet template?

You can just add rows and format cells to this weekly timesheet, also known as a timecard template, to make it work for you on a monthly basis. While this timesheet template is designed for a five-day workweek, you can always add more rows for additional days. 

Just be sure you add the right number of days for the pay period. A monthly time sheet template for a month of 30 days would, of course, need 30 rows. But a semi monthly timesheet would need 14, 15, or 16 rows, depending on whether the month has 28, 30, or 31 days. A better option would be a simple timesheet that handles this math for you automatically.
