She said that

We use the shift notes and roles feature to communicate to each scheduled employee exactly where they are working. Priceless! Our employees often use Homebase to communicate with each other and with us, and they get reminders of upcoming shifts.

Frequently asked questions about employee performance reviews

What is an employee performance review?

An employee performance review, also known as a performance appraisal or performance evaluation, is an assessment of your team members’ strengths and weaknesses when it comes to the job. During this assessment, managers and employees (and sometimes members of human resources)  take a look at the employee’s work performance.

You as the manager, and sometimes even the employee, identify strengths and weaknesses about the employee’s work. Then, you offer feedback and set goals that the employee should work towards until the next evaluation. You can also use the review as an opportunity to discuss future career development goals.

If your performance review is successful, it can help your employee understand what they’re doing well, what they need to improve, and how they can work towards their goals in the future.

How often should I conduct performance reviews?

Traditionally, businesses will hold annual performance reviews for their employees. However, more and more business owners and managers are pulling out their employee evaluation forms more often and conducting reviews every six months instead.

Some small businesses are even conducting performance appraisals quarterly or weekly. How often you hold your reviews is up to you and whatever works best for your business.

No matter how often you choose to evaluate your employees, Homebase is here to help make the process easier. Our employee performance reports help you stay on top of your team, and you can help keep them on track before the review occurs with shift reminders and real-time feedback.

What should I include on my employee evaluation form?

When evaluating your employee’s performance levels, you’ll need to look at several factors. If you include the right items for both managers and employees to consider on your performance appraisal forms, your review should be productive and effective.

The first item to include on your form is what the employee is doing well. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Many review forms have a rating scale to use when evaluating skills such as time management, attention to detail, ability to meet deadlines, and other aspects you find important and valuable in your workplace.

The rating scale can also be used to identify the employee’s weaknesses. Giving them a low rating with an explanation can help the employee to figure out what they need to work on and improve.

You should also include a section on the form where the employee can give thoughts on where they see themselves going in the business. Once you have a better idea of what their goals are, you can provide feedback on how they can work effectively to achieve them.

Not only does the performance review process include an analysis of the employee’s ability to complete tasks, but also on how they work with the rest of the team. It’s important for employees to have a positive attitude to keep your workplace a happy one, so these aspects should be included in your performance review template.

With Homebase, paying attention to your employee performance management is easy. You can provide notes and instructions for shifts that will help your team perform to the best of their ability.

Homebase also allows you to keep track of employees through profiles where you can track certifications, and share stats with employees so they can keep an eye on their own performance themselves.

What are a few employee evaluation examples?

An example of a great employee evaluation process is one that ticks all of the boxes for a great review. First things first, your environment should be comfortable and you should minimize distractions so the employee feels open and confident enough to be candid about their feelings.

You should also refer back to your job description to kick things off with your employee evaluation form. No matter what the role is, the employee you are evaluating should be completing all of the tasks and expectations they received when signing up for the job.

Another thing to be aware of: Be sure to look at the bigger picture when evaluating your employees, not just something that happened right before the review occurs. This will help your assessment remain more objective and productive.

Homebase also provides a great example of what employee evaluations should include. Our employee performance reports can serve as a useful jumping off point. For example, we provide stats on the percentage your employee arrives to work on time, both for the last thirty days and since they were hired.

We also provide the average shift feedback so you can keep a pulse on how they’re feeling about the role on a regular basis. Are you seeing that they’re giving shifts a poor rating more often than not? This is something you can bring up in your review and provide feedback on how to make their shifts better for everyone.

How else can Homebase help with performance reviews?

There are even more ways Homebase can make your performance review productive, effective,  and worthwhile. Our employee attendance alerts and reports keep you in the know about team performance. You can also use the team roster to track certifications and evaluations.

You should be providing feedback on your team’s performance more than just when you sit down with them for an evaluation. Luckily with Homebase, real-time feedback can be dispersed with our free messaging app

Speaking of real-time feedback, you can help improve your team’s performance with automated reminders. Send your team automated shift reminders to make sure they show up on time, add notes and instructions that they can see when they clock in for a shift, and share stats with employees so they can keep track of how they’re doing themselves.
